10 ways to be inspired

I used to think inspiration a cliché, a new age term that meant fake smiling pictures and lapses of weak passion. But it's more than that. It's an awakening of the things inside of us, moments of clearer vision, when we face forward and forget to look back.

1. Pinterest. It was founded in 2010, and it's creators, Sharp, Silbermann and Sciarra, all have names starting with S. But that's not important right now (sorry you three). The time it I spend on Pinterest is constantly rewarded with fine ideas and fresh vision. It's a safety net I fall into whenever I am feeling drained, and it's always in favour of a rad time.

2. Defying gravity, from Wicked the Musical. This song tends to fill me with unexplainable zest and passion, gut-renching outbursts of happy breathing. It's 6 min long, so if you replay it 10 times, that's an hour of inspirational sing song. (You could make do with 2 replays if you're budgeting time - stingy.)

3. Quotes. When I see wisdom floating by, I reach out and grab it. I write it down. And I generally plaster my walls with it (usually in nice calligraphy though, don't worry).

4. Interviews. Watch them on Youtube of whoever inspires you. For me, it's Heidi Baker, Bethel Music, and sorry not sorry (HA SEE WHAT I DID THERE) Justin Bieber. Pick and make your own playlist of elevating speakers.

5. Bible. Included would be the book that brings me life, brings me hope and brings me ambition. The Word of the Lord is always refreshing - the river never runs dry.

6. Favourite movies. Even something made in Hollywood can be inspiring. One of my favourites is Bride Wars, but let's pretend I didn't say that because it's embarrassing and look, we've already moved on.

7. Instagram stalk. There are many amazing humans doing amazing things, and plenty that document their adventures. Explore different accounts - currently I like @stephenjameshart and @jeremyriddle.

8. Listen to music. There are realms of tracks and tunes to be double clicked on. I'd tell you my Spotify account, but it's likely to lead to uncomfortable situations where you find out what playlists I listen to like the Little Mermaid soundtrack. I'm so glad I didn't just tell you that.

9. Explore creation. It is always easier to contemplate the future with a fine view. Notice the walkways and valleys around you, the beach is dripping with sand for you to dance on.

10. Astronomy. Look into the night sky and stare at the stars until you realize how small you are. You realize that God made this whole earth, and he still remembers your name. You also realize that if his handiwork is divine, then so are His plans for you.

What do you do to get inspired?

  4. Quotes always inspire me! My favourite one at the moment is 'if you aren't doing something you love then you are wasting your time'. I really want to get into using Pinterest... I will for sure get obsessed though!
