And you, my soul, would neither fathom nor dare
Of rejecting the precious life you live
Or the gifts and talents you have to give
Then why, my soul, do you despise
And lament of mercies in disguise
You stand and you point at the flaw in the flawless
And find stale religion in the free and the lawless
Why is it heavy and hard to be grateful
When my hungering hands are always twice full
But give me a day, or give me year
Not trusting my mind or weak human tears
But look to the air where blessings undone
Can fill the heart thrice, without dimes, minus none
The only place where my ungratefulness redeemed
His mindset is planted and grows like a seed
My soul can be still and sing His praise new
Because you’re only ungrateful when it’s all about you
