BAYKERS ON BRIGHTON | MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Melbourne is a free flowing place with a propensity for good coffees and good company. Five days was almost enough time to see the city, but to 'experience' it would take six months, in the opinion of the locals. The inner city is a busy collection of creatives, students, and businesses, scattered between cafes, trams, and historic office blocks. Exploring the alley ways illuminated by neon signs and brightened by a number of Italian restaurants (not complaining) is how I spent some afternoons, but on day three my engrained desire to be near the sea took me out to see the Brighton Beach Huts, located 13 kms from the inner city.

In the suburb of Brighton, after driving 7 kms too far (miscommunication between myself and Google Maps), we found this cafe that sells baked goods all handmade in their kitchen. The chalkboard was inscribed with a timely quote, pictured above, and the display cakes make me want to have a birthday or get married. Kinda (as long as those involved know I'm only in it for the dessert).

The whole of Melbourne is populated by 4.5 million, but I sipped my milky chai in the company of about six others. The informality of buying a chilli chicken focaccia is liberating, and the establishment of an aesthetic bench to eat it at is a pleasure that makes me resent nothing about spending money on artisan food.

The sea-side suburb is relaxed, with a classy edge that outlines the beautiful streets and long-stretched beach. Part of my heart was secured by the atmosphere and fresh experience, but tbh, most of it was taken captive by the nutella donuts. Recommend 11/10.

  1. Loved this post! I'm actually going back to Melbourne at the end of the year (for a wedding so maybe I can grab a pre-celebratory cake) and am so glad I found this, I'm gonna try to visit this cafe! ♡
